[Fulltime] - Network and Systems Administrator at Veson Nautical

Location: Boston, MA

As a Veson Nautical Network and Systems Administrator you will support the development and deployment of new products by managing servers in an Active Directory environment. You will deploy, tune, and maintain the performance of web, application, and database servers, network and storage devices, and troubleshoot problems with networks and web services. You will specify, install, and maintain mid-sized office networking and security equipment (routers, gateways, firewalls, switches, VPN), and make recommendations for system and process changes. You will deploy and maintain ASP.Net web applications using Windows Server and IIS with traffic load balancing as well as Microsoft SQL Server databases with backup and automated fail-over. You will monitor and maintain our in-office VMWare ESXi installation and our in-office SAN. You may also be called upon to assist customers with installation of an enterprise level client/server application.

Technology:• Microsoft Server 2003 and 2008, Active Directory, IIS 6.0, and SQL Server 2005• Veson Nautical products are built primarily with C++, C#, XHTML, AJAX, ASP.NET and CSS.

Requirements:• Education: BA/BS• 5 years experience in systems administration• Broad knowledge of networking equipment, operating systems, and hardware• Relational database knowledge (MS SQL Server)• Familiarity with at least one scripting language, Python a plus• Critical thinking and decision-making skills• Ability to troubleshoot complex problems• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Desire to work in fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting• Reliable with a proactive, positive approach to work• Legal right to work in U.S.

As a Veson Nautical Applications Consultant, you will function as the primary technical contact throughout the sales, implementation, and deployment phases of the world’s leading enterprise software solution for maritime commercial operations. You will provide pre-sales support, deliver product demos, author proposals, provide technical information, and quickly map customer processes to product capabilities. Your responsibilities will extend throughout the project lifecycle – understanding customer’s needs, gathering requirements, establishing and maintaining project scope and facilitating communications and accountability. As the point person for system implementation you will provide customized training and ongoing support to end-users, IT, and management to ensure successful system adoption. You will work closely with the Veson Nautical product team to define and verify customizations, and to plan and manage successful enterprise software implementations.

Requirements• 5 years experience with enterprise software implementations, integration and training• Analytical thinking and attention to details• Demonstrated planning and organizing skills• Outstanding consulting, presentation, coaching and facilitation skills• Ability to communicate with customers at all levels of the organization• Proven ability to proactively address customer concerns and meet or exceed customer needs• Strong written and oral communication skills• Degree in computer science, information technology engineering or maritime• Solid computer skills and understanding of network and software technology (coding ability a plus)• Experience with Windows Server 2003 and MS Operating Systems• Ability to rapidly adapt to changing systems and environments; proactive, positive approach to work• Desire to work in fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting• Experience with maritime shipping industry is a plus but not required• Willingness to travel extensively (50% national and international travel required)• Legal right to work in U.S.

You will be responsible for the development and execution of manual and automated test cases and QA processes that ensure quality throughout our release schedule. You will have a deep understanding of our customer’s workflow and processes and uncover and diagnose problems in new and existing code by running customer centric scenarios.
