Description:
Estimator will work closely with Predesign department in developing value engineered estimates for various types of Photo Voltaic Solar Systems. Estimator will estimate all facets of construction with regards to Ground Mounted Fixed Tilt Systems, Tracking Systems, Carport Systems, Floating Systems, and Roof Mounted PV Solar Systems. All systems include but are not limited to Commercial, Industrial, and Utility interconnections. Should understand Civil, Mechanical, Electrical constraints. Must be able to estimate all electrical components associated with both DC Solar and three phase AC Distribution with a working knowledge of estimating medium voltage AC distribution. Assists in preparing bid packages, quantity take off's, conceptual estimates and analysis of subcontractor bids for routine projects. On more complex and comprehensive projects, assists with developing and validating project cost estimates, project estimate reviews, and revisions to reflect contract scope changes and extra work orders. Develops quantity take offs (alone or with team).
Responsibilities:

• Estimate projects utilizing a defined scope of work from sales or a RFP from Public Work Agencies.

• Sets up estimating files for projects.

• Coordinate with the predesign and designers for “best fit†electrical components for all PV type solar system construction.

• Establish and maintain effective communication channels with predesign, Design & Engineering, and Construction personnel in order to more accurately estimate costs per project type and region.

• Perform collateral duties as assigned

• Assist the individual responsible in compiling a list of relevant and capable trades to use for budgeting or tendering

• Prepare subcontractor tender documentation

• Update the estimating trade and vendor list to ensure contact names, addresses, phone and fax numbers are up to date

• Produce quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate as directed by the individual responsible

• Ensure the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the project team

• Ensure estimates include safety and security requirements

• Assist the individual responsible in developing the schedule on which the estimate is built. Request input from the project team

Qualifications:

• Electrical Commercial Estimator with a minimum of 10 years of commercial field experience with electrical installation and applications.

• Post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Engineering, Construction Management, and/or Estimating

• 5+ years of construction estimating experience

• Knowledge of the estimating process

• Familiar with construction materials, methods and scheduling

• Able to interpret conceptual and completed drawings

• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Project

• Knowledge of estimating specific software

• Ability to fluently understand electrical plans in relation to large commercial Electrical systems. PV systems understanding. Will train internally on the specifics of company PV installation practices.

• Knowledge NEC and UBC guidelines and regulations.

• Specific Knowledge of NEC 690 code requirements and associated equipment applications and costs.

• Effective interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment, with ability to give direction and to follow direction.

• Excellent customer relation skills, including professional appearance and manner; Effective oral and written communications skills, and computer literacy required.

• Ability to perform effectively both in the field, and within the corporate office environment.

• Commercial, Industrial, and Utility construction experience and strong understanding of electrical power and distribution requirements.

• Solar experience required.
