Currently, we have a career opportunity as a Systems Analyst/Programmer Associate (Web Developer). Under the direction of the Web Administrator, the Web Developer is responsible for maintaining the technical aspects of the School of Communication’s internal and external web sites. The incumbent has responsibility for planning, researching, developing, testing and deploying web applications. The successful candidate will have strong technical abilities using the LAMP framework and have the flexibility to adapt, evolve and propose new technologies as they arise. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. In this critical role, some of the job duties and tasks you will perform include but are not limited to:
Works closely with the web administrator on project requirements, and develop and deploy PHP web modules accordingly;
Performs ongoing development, support and maintenance of the school’s content management system;
Implements and maintains MySQL database;
Works closely with the school’s systems administrator to maintain the servers used to host the web site and databases and ensure continuity;
Develops applications for a secure environment with appropriate authentication and authorization protocols;
Writes and maintains documentation;
Contributes to project decisions with an understanding of the impact to related systems and sites;
Contributes accurate project timeline estimates during planning stages;
Assesses market for new software development tools and recommends development solutions;
Attends conferences, training sessions and professional development seminars;
Performing related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on or major in web development, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
3-5 years of experience of web application development or equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
Advanced understanding of web site development and management;
Advanced knowledge of Web protocols and programming requirements: LAMP environment;
Expert level knowledge of database design and administration;
Working knowledge of Javascript;
Experience with SVN and SQLyog;
Understanding of HTML and CSS.
