The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Software Developer to support the Biotechnology High Performance Computing Software Applications Institute (BHSAI) located in Frederick, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to BHSAI.

The Biotechnology High Performance Computing Software Application Institute develops HPC software applications to support the DoD Biotechnology community, including research for the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. The Institute has a multidisciplinary staff with backgrounds from industry, government and academics with experiences in bioinformatics, physical chemistry, physics, mathematics, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular and cellular biology, and biomedical engineering. The BHSAI is co-located with The US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command's Bioinformatics Cell, located at Ft. Detrick, Maryland.

Responsibilities:

1. Support biomedical research by transitioning proof-of-concept software prototypes to production quality systems for research applications.

The applicant should have a Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline and an interest in pursuing the development of software tools that directly support the mission of the Command's life scientists. In particular, the Software Developer would support biomedical research by developing and transitioning proof of concept software prototypes to production-quality systems for research applications. This position requires experience developing Web-enabled client/server systems with a database backend. A strong knowledge of OOP, Java, J2EE, servlets, applets, portlets, RDBMS concepts, Oracle/PostgreSQL/MySQL, SQL, HTML, JavaScript, and XML is required. A good knowledge of C/C++, Perl, Python, Ruby, and GNU tools is desirable. Operating system knowledge should include UNIX/Linux, with good basic shell scripting knowledge, and Windows OS. Working experience in support of life-science research and high-performance computing is a plus. The Software Developer will also help maintain the Institute's IT infrastructure. Experience with installing and maintaining UNIX/LINUX-based server machines, and a working knowledge of Local Area Networks, MS Exchange-based mail servers, DNS servers, and CISCO firewalls is a plus. Technical expertise, business analytics, personnel management and day-to-day and long-term project management are key aspects of this position.
