Situated Research, LLC/Naperville, IL (Telecommute)Our web development group is looking to fill a Senior Web Developer position. Work will be primarily on the back end, so you should have a solid web and database development background. You can look at a source of information and model it as resources, rows and columns, messages and queues. You have the programming experience necessary to write data processors and servers, the system administration experience to inhabit and actively guide a constantly-shifting technical environment of open-source software, and the grace to realize that PHP and spreadsheets might be appropriate tools when circumstances require the quick and dirty.
Projects will likely involve:

JavaScript; AJAX; Python; ASP / ASPX / .NET; PHP; MySQL; Standards-compliant HTML5, XHTML, CSS
Responsibilities

* Develop and maintain web based client/server applications as well as web sites to support a wide array of client machine configurations
* Install, configure and maintain Apache/IIS based web servers
* Write server side tasks in Perl and/or other OS specific (windows scripting, UNIX scripting, etc.)
* Analysis of site traffic (may be required to develop custom reports)
* Conduct unit and system integration testing; support users conducting acceptance testing
* Installations of 3rd party add-ons like WordPress blogs, Joomla CMS, etc.
* Installation / customization of database apps like shopping carts / e-commerce, use of SSL (https://)
* Designing interface improvements / enhancements, scripts, JavaScript / jQuery UI enhancements
* Invoking custom APIs, integrating 3rd party tools (Google maps, etc.)
* Developing custom websites in PHP / custom databases in MySQL
* May be called upon to lead a team of developers
* Frequent communication with team; some client interaction possible

While we expect you to be self-sufficient, you can expect some guidance on projects. However, the more resourceful and motivated you are, the better. We are looking for a talented individual that understands both the back-end of Flash and the creative front-end as well. You should be well versed in ActionScript 2 or 3, and have a good design sense for designing Flash animation (tween classes, etc.). You should have a good working knowledge of the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, etc.) so you can edit graphics, and then optimize them for Flash. You might be designing an entire website in Flash, or perhaps a banner ad or possibly even a small video game. The more capable and creative you are, the better. You should understand usability thoroughly, so you can make informed decisions about when Flash might be appropriate for a project, and when it might be a hindrance that distracts the end-user. Examples of your previous work should reveal clean, highly-usable designs rather than annoying, distracting abuses of animation.
