Location: Rolla, MO
Job Description The position will perform direct Linux support, document existing activities and procedures, evaluate and document campus need for Linux systems and support, direct student workers in support of the Linux support activities, research and apply Linux support methods and techniques from similar academic environments, prepare and present findings and operational guidelines to IT and campus community members, work with other IT units to assess issues and integration of Linux-support-related activities. Minimum Qualifications In appraising the relative qualifications of candidates for all levels, consideration will be given to the extent and type of experience with various information technology functions and to the extent and type of pertinent education and formal training. At the time a job opening is posted the hiring department will specify required knowledge and skills pertaining to specific technologies/software/equipment. Broad range of LAN and desktop knowledge skills (reference specifics posted by the hiring department). Expansive knowledge of desktop/workstation hardware/software/operating systems (configuration and connectivity). Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, network topologies, network file servers, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques. Familiarity with systems administration and security principles. Strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient to interact with a variety of users and other technical staff. Strong customer service skills. ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Effective communication and interpersonal skills - sufficient to effectively elicit IT information from users, train users in technical procedures/design, and document IT related procedures. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of a work assignment and to participate as a member of a cross departmental project team. Time management skills and organizational ability for project management. Ability to work under pressure; meet inflexible deadlines; deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure. Ability to coordinate, train, supervise, or manage the activities of others to accomplish goals. This position is a one year appointment.
