WPI is hiring for two faculty positions in Interactive Media and Game Development:

Professor of Practice in Game Design and Professor of Practice in Art

The Interactive Media and Game Development (IMGD) major is designed to provide an outstanding education to its undergraduates in the principles of interactive applications and computer-based game development. IMGD majors focus on the design, technical (programming), and artistic (art, music, story) aspects of interactive media and game development. The program grants a Bachelor of Science in Interactive Media and Game Development, with approximately 150 majors. The Professors of Practice will teach courses in their area, advise student projects, develop new courses in their area of expertise, liaise with industry to support the program, and collaborate with other faculty across the disciplines of art, technology and design. Professor of Practice in Game DesignThe Interactive Media and Game Development program is looking for a Professor of Practice in the area of Game Design. The ideal candidate will develop new courses in topics in game design as well as teach core courses in game development, storytelling, and critical evaluation of games. The preferred candidate should have shipped one or more games as lead game designer. Teaching experience is also preferred. An advanced degree is not required.

Professor of Practice in ArtThe Interactive Media and Game Development program is looking for a Professor of Practice in Art to support game development. The ideal candidate should have expertise with 3d modeling, animation, lighting or texturing. Additionally, candidates should be able to teach core art topics such as illustration, character design, and storyboarding. The preferred candidate should have shipped one or more games as lead artist. Teaching experience is also preferred. An advanced degree is not required. WPI is a distinctive national university with an enrollment of 3,700, including about 1,000 graduate students. WPI's acclaimed and long-standing project-based undergraduate curriculum is singled out by professional societies as a model program, and an ideal forum for students to develop computer games and other interactive media applications. The Position:The Product Development Director will work as a part of the product & technology team to drive new product development and manage an array of existing products for Boston.com – the leading regional media portal in the U.S. Reporting to the VP of Product, this manager will be responsible for identifying new product ideas, monitoring audience, advertiser and competitor trends, developing and testing product concepts, and developing sound business plans for new product initiatives. The Product Development Director will also serve as the internal product champion, working to build consensus across the organization for key initiatives. Creating and executing the product strategy and serving as the lead project manager during the development phase through successful product launch is also central to the position.

Primary Responsibilities Include:Identifying and developing new products and services that profitably serve our target market.

Formalizing and managing the product development process from end to end, including idea generation, concept development and approval, and launch execution.

Creating product business plans, and strategy documents that accurately describe a business opportunity, key resource requirements and timelines, competitive environment, pricing, positioning, and distribution.

Creating pro forma P&Ls and financial projections.

Developing detailed product description documents that provide clear and thorough requirements for the key support functions: editorial, web design, and technology.

Facilitating all cross-functional team communication and coordination. Serve as the project manager for all phases of the development process, including working closely with Editorial, Design, Technology, Sales and the executive team to bring a product to successful launch on-time and on-budget.

Managing a team of Product Managers to continually execute strategies on existing products, iterating, redeveloping and repositioning as required.

Requirements- At least 5 years of product management/development experience is needed, with experience in digital media preferred

- Working knowledge of web development environments

- Strong business understanding and experience working in a technical environment

- Ability to work under tight deadlines with capability of managing several projects concurrently

- MBA or equivalent experience

A passion for media on the web and experience in the publishing industry are strong pluses!
