The Data Operations Engineer is responsible for managing the company data repositories, data feeds, and data APIs across all company systems inclusive of Web systems, core web-based data products, analytics and reporting systems, and corporate financial systems. The Data Ops Engineer will make best use of available tools in the fields of scripting, RDBMS, ETL, and data warehousing. The person in this position will ensure the timely downloading and updating of system data from inbound data sources, then transforming and merging inbound data with existing data as needed to maintain the integrity and timeliness of the system data. The Data Ops Engineer develops and maintains the systems necessary to perform this duty in coordination with the company data architect and development team. The ability to troubleshoot and problem solve is keep to success in this position.
Responsibilities:
* Monitoring of data sources for updates.
* Development of systems for merging and matching of data.
* Creation of scripts, SQL, and ETL jobs to ensure system data integrity between disparate systems.
* Develop monitoring scripts that capture and report on data integrity issues.
* Create data dumps from system data sources as necessary for 3rd party needs and internal system coordination needs.
* Work with in-house development team in order to manage the production APIs that allow 3rd party developers to access internal data.
* Coordinate with systems administrator and DBA to develop and test data disaster recovery.
* Present ideas, suggestions, and industry best practices that will allow for best-of-breed systems.
Requirements:
* BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical field.
* 5+ years of production software development experience.
* Knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, Python, and shell.
* Experience with relational databases, SQL, query optimization, and data modeling.
* Strong experience MySQL and SQLServer database systems.
* Strong experience working with REST and/or SOAP 3rd party APIs.
* Experience with large scale data management and maintenance in an e-commerce environment.
* Experience with 3rd party analytics systems such as Google Analytics or Omniture preferred.
* Experience development data disaster recovery plans preferred.
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills required.
* Excellent communication skills required.
