Carleton College welcomes applications for the position of Web Technical Administrator. The purpose of this position is to support and advance the technical aspects of Carleton College’s web presence and web-based information services. The Web Technical Administrator is a member of the ITS Enterprise Information Systems team and the Web Services group. This is a full-time, 12 month staff position and is eligible for the College’s benefits package. Essential Responsibilities:
• Maintains and manages web server software and modules: Apache, Tomcat, PHP, Shibboleth and other authentication/authorization modules, search engines, statistics engines, streaming services, version control systems, etc.• Maintain, manage, design and customize web-based applications (such as Moodle and Confluence) and support software such as MySQL, LDAP and account provisioning scripts in cooperation with the web team and/or with other ITS staff. • Provides technical support for Moodle including application support and upgrades.• Collaborates in conceptualization and implementation of scalable, secure, robust, high-quality web based services.• Serves as a technical resource for ITS and Web Services.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree.• 3 to 5 years experience in technical aspects of web administration and application development in a Linux environment (Red Hat Enterprise Linux preferred).• Demonstrated experience developing web interfaces to relational databases.• Demonstrated experience with Tomcat, Apache, WebISO/SSO. • Demonstrated experience designing/building maintainable, flexible, robust systems using open standards.• Expertise building and maintaining UNIX-based applications.• Demonstrated experience with Perl, PHP, XML, Java, and version control (eg. Subversion).• Excellent written and oral communications skills. • Strong analytical, technical, and organizational skills. • Initiative, flexibility, and ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications• Experience with Windows Server/IIS.• Expertise in open-source software packaging/build automation.• Experience with highly available and highly scalable web application environments.• Demonstrated experience writing web applications interfaced with relational database technology (MySQL, Microsoft SQL, and/or Oracle).
