Digital Content Assistant

(Part-time: 20 hours per week)

Heal the Bay is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to making Southern California coastal waters and watersheds, including Santa Monica Bay, safe, healthy and clean. We use research, education, community action and advocacy to pursue our mission.

Position Summary

The Digital Content Assistant will assist in preparing and publishing content for Heal the Bay’s web site, e-newsletters, social media presences and other office digital media requirements to help maintain the currency and completeness of digital content. This is a part-time, 20-hour- per-week position with the possibility of future full-time employment. The Digital Content Assistant will report directly to and work under the direction of the Web Producer.

Responsibilities Include

Primary Posting content to Heal the Bay’s web site via the Drupal content management system. Uploading and organizing content to YouTube and Flickr. Formatting and performing technical quality assurance of MyEmma e-mail newsletters. Web optimizing digital images (resizing, downsampling, sharpening, etc.).

Secondary Configuring Drupal templates to facilitate content entry by non-technical staff. Performing Drupal maintenance and troubleshooting. Building Drupal-based microsites as needed. Designing various graphic assets as needed for web site and other digital publications. Learning and maintaining the Drupal Springboard-Salesforce API. Learning and maintaining the CapWiz API.

Experience and Skills

Required

Content Management System Extensive experience using Drupal 6 for content entry and management. Ability to create Drupal templates and content types. Familiarity with basic Drupal administration, e.g. installing modules, etc.

Web Authoring Technologies Extensive HTML/XHTML skills. Strong CSS skills. Javascript and jQuery familiarity is desirable.

Digital Content Preparation Image prep and optimization for web using Photoshop and/or Fireworks. Ability to create graphic designs is desirable (logos, banners, backgrounds, etc.).

Applications Adobe Creative Suite 4 or 5 (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator, Acrobat) Microsoft Office

Additional/Optional Strong writing and editing skills Spanish language fluency Video editing Flash

This position will not be granted benefits or vacation/sick time.

Work Location

The Digital Content Assistant is required to work onsite at Heal the Bay’s main office in Santa Monica, CA.
