The candidate is responsible for the research, assessment and lab evaluation of advanced and next generation networking products, services, and architecture in an applied research environment. The IP Network Researcher will be required to develop high level functional analysis, test reports, and detailed description of network architectures, services and system components. The candidate also needs to have the ability to understand cost analysis, economic factors and business models about deployment and implementation of functions and services in Telco network architectures. The candidate needs to follow and deeply analyze Telco regulation trends, market forces, business models and technical factors driving growth strategy and influencing technical architecture deployment and services evolution for both consumers and enterprises. The candidate needs to be able to connect with the Telco and operators community to write competitive analysis and technical reports. The candidate will also contribute to the definition of requirements for Orange network architecture infrastructure and its evolution, propose new services, influence the design and demonstrate the technical and economic relevance of specific architectural principles and technologies. The candidate will also be responsible for the interaction with local external parties, commercial and academic, to build technical collaboration and business initiatives and partnerships, as well to interact with internal Orange group teams based abroad. The candidate should have experience in research, evaluation, design, development and deployment of network technologies.
Main tasks would be to:
* research and evaluate innovative products, services and architectures meeting stringent flexibility, resiliency, scalability, quality, cost-effective, energy-efficiency and other requirements of large, critical network infrastructures;
* drive the design and development of demonstrators and Proofs of Concept (PoC) in an international multi-lab setting, to conceive, design and set up innovation test beds;
* follow-through innovation cycle (feasibility study, design, develop, experiment, validate);
* being strongly entrenched in the local ecosystem innovation fabric, in commercial environment (vendor, service providers, etc.) as well applied research (universities, academic labs, etc.) to build technical collaboration and business initiatives and partnerships;
* promote innovative service, products and network architectures to internal stakeholders, business units and decision makers;
* study Telco, MSOs and service operators technical architecture, service deployments and evolution plans, doing brief competitive analysis and present it to Orange stake-holders, management and executive-level audiences;
* show fluency and ability to prepare detailed reports, appealing presentations, as well writing technical articles and influential white papers;
* establish effective working relationships with Orange labs and business units to evangelize and get technical and business validation of proposed innovation, which may imply trips to France and business countries for short periods of time.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelor degree in EE or CS required. Master degree in EE or CS is preferred. PhD is a strong plus.
* Experience in network product design, development and service deployment cycle.
* Experience in R&D evaluation of networking technology and architecture.
* Experience in network equipment hardware and software architecture.
* Experience in design and development of network/telecom software.
* Experience in business analysis and cost models applied to Telco network infrastructure and services.
* Experience and strong knowledge of broadband network architecture, technology and protocols (xDSL, FTTx, xPON, etc.).
* Experience and knowledge of mobile network architecture, technology and service protocols (2G, 3G, 4G, LTE, WI-FI, WIMAX, etc.).
* Strong knowledge of any one of core routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP, PIM-SM, MPLS, QoS, etc.); and any one of access protocols like PPP, PPPoE, L2TP, DHCP, etc.
* Experience and knowledge of Internet content and video delivery architecture (CDN, P2P, WebTV, IPTV, mobile TV, etc.).
* Experience and knowledge of voice data network architecture, technology and service protocols (IMS, SIP, MGW, SGW, VoIP, etc.)
* Knowledge of Internet architecture governance and economic organization (transport, peering agreements, etc.).
* Innovation mind-set and outstanding communication skills.
* Involvement in industry-wide initiatives and partnership, writing technical publications and white papers.
* Knowledge and/or fluency in French are a strong plus.
* Self-starter, results-oriented with strong team work attitude.
