Our 3rd co-founder was UX & Visual Design. We couldn't take design more seriously, and we've got cash and equity for you if you're the one.If you're into data visualization and interaction design, Profitably can offer you a unique opportunity to tackle a really tough challenge, bringing Finance to life for a small business. This isn't pie charts and static tables. We want to help business owners interact with their data, drive complex insights out of the numbers, and take action.ResponsibilitiesYou would literally be sitting between Francis, our CTO, and Chad, our Chief Aesthete, in NYC. Chad owns UX and Visual Design, and Francis owns Engineering. We need someone to sit between the two and implement Chad's vision, working with Francis to bring it to life.At the same time, you're not just executing on Chad's design. You're coming in early enough that we would be counting on you to contribute a broad range of skills and aesthetic interests and to own data visualization design and interaction design.Day to day this means:

  • Design and develop web-based interactive charts and data visualizations
  • Own the implementation of major new features and feature improvements
  • Identify and solve compatibility issues
  • Work closely with the backend team to profile and optimize code for performance

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience working on a high volume website
  • Experience working in small teams with a great deal of autonomy
  • Expertise with HTML/CSS experience required
  • Expertise with Javascript required, along with experience using a JS framework (we use JQuery)
  • Working knowledge and/or willingness to learn Git and Ruby on Rails
  • Bonus: Expertise with High Charts, Raphael and/or other interactive charting libraries (or a burning desire to build your own)
  • Bonus: Experience gathering and integrating direct feedback from users
  • A desire to be personally responsible for production-level code
  • A compulsion to release early and often!
  • Experience with dynamic languages, agile methodologies, financial analysis, test-driven development, and distributed workers
  • A preoccupation with staying on top of industry trends and technologies
