Position Summary:
Researches, Architects, Develops and Supports applications and workflows geared toward improving and automating the Media Post Production Pipeline. Administers security and actively participates in all application upgrades. Evaluates new hardware, software and operating system technology and makes recommendations to Production/Engineering management on adoptions and direction.Trains and mentors other software and systems engineers and operation staff. Serves as a key member of application development and upgrade teams and acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Responsibilities
1. Design, Development and Architecture:
-Develops departmental standards, guidelines and methodologies for current and upcoming development programs.
-Participates in defining the operating model for current and upcoming workflows
-Designs, develops and documents workflow and tools to automate and optimize the production pipeline.
2. Technology Reviews:
-Researches and reviews new software, operating systems and 3rd party technologies.
-Evaluates new technologies against competitors and validate the usability of the technology.
-Educates team and Fox Post Production Engineering management in new technology improvements.
3. Security:
-Works closely with Production Systems Engineering to establish and audit system and directory service security.
-Works closely with software developers to provide a secure application environment.
4. Project Support:
-Works closely with application developers, operations staff to deliver creative solutions to complex technology challenges and business requirements.
-Recommends and oversees technical solutions, architecture design and implementation time line in support of production application requirements.
-Ensures infrastructure standards and best practices are followed.
5. Production Support:
-Works closely with other system administrators, application developers and production support personnel to gain a thorough understanding of the architecture of the Production system being supported
-Develops standards, policies and procedures as well as best practices documentation.
6. Administrative:
-Works with other engineers and application developers to continually improve production support levels.
-Participates as Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required for design reviews and technology and tool selection.
-Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.
-Trains and mentors new and sustaining engineers.
-Adheres to department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.
7. Departmental Responsibilities:
-Develops Engineering Guidelines for department usage and workflows
-Recommends Testing Guidelines for evaluating new Encoders, Transcoders and Wrapping devices and software.
-Identifies new compression Codecs and helps introduce them into production.

Job Requirements
Education:
0 HS Diploma/GED 0 AA/AS 1 BA/BS 0 MBA/MS 0 PHD
Knowledge:
-Mastery level knowledge of Media frameworks, and video and audio processing.
-Mastery level knowledge of Encoding and Decoding practices and methodologies employed for digital distribution in the M&E space.
-Mastery level knowledge of Editorial systems, Editorial practices and toolsets.
-Comprehensive knowledge of scripting languages, including but not limited to Perl, csh, etc
-Comprehensive knowledge of XML schemas and XML methodologies.
Skills:
-Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a diversified workload.
-Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, clients and other IT personnel.
-Demonstrated ability to manage a small team of engineers

-Ability to write and present effective materials, including presentations, status reporting, technical diagrams and flowcharts.
Experience:
-Minimum 7 years Production experience in a Media infrastructure environment supporting operations, operating systems and automation.
-Experience working with a High Availability Media based Storage Area Network (SAN).
-Experience in Content Management and general Media Asset Management practices.
-Experience working with portal frameworks (.NET/Weblogic), digital asset management systems, web content management systems.
-Hands on Experience with Video Processing, Audio and Video codecs.
