THE BIG PICTURE
Sonic Solutions is leading the development of next-generation download and streaming video services on a wide range of platforms and devices. We are looking for a passionateArt Director to join the User Experience Design team, working on products and services related video download and streaming services. He or she will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing and delivering high-quality experiences and will be expected to contribute significantly towards the creative vision of the UX Group. This individual possesses impressive creative talent, is a strong advocate for the user and has proven capable of solving difficult user interface problems without burdening users with complexity. Sonic is looking for a true all-rounder that can understand user needs, interpret those needs and turn them into beautiful product designs ready for implementation.
THE EVERYDAY VIEW
Conceptualize, design and develop stunning and original user interface designs in a fast-paced environment.
Realize concepts into visually compelling, implemented designs.
Understand best practices and propose improvements in designs and methodology.
Determine target audience needs and other motivating factors.
Work with Technical leads, UX team and project/product managers to determine product features.
Experiment with innovative approaches to visual design that push the boundaries.
Recruit users for testing; manage and run tests and analyze data.
Present and prioritize user testing results and submit design recommendations.
Mentor and develop skills in all levels of designers as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate has:
Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Graphic Design, Information Design, Product Application Design or related field.
At least 6 years experience designing visually stunning interactive user interfaces for web, PC, mobile apps and 10ft (TV) experiences, preferably with 1-2 years of project lead experience.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
A keen aesthetic, fanatical attention to detail and the ability to distill simple solutions from complex problems are essential skills for this role.
Expert-level knowledge of key design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
A strong portfolio of designs, sketches, mockups & deliverables that showcase the process of UI design phases, from concept to release.
Deep understanding of user-centered product development methodology and the role played by visual designers.
Detailed knowledge of fundamental design principles and disciplines that affect typography, color use, animation, composition, use of space, weight etc.
Self-motivated, solution-oriented, willing to work in a fast paced software development environment.
A natural team player with a preference for group discussion, brainstorming and passionate argument.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently.
Strong communication skills and a penchant for staying organized.
Advanced-level knowledge of prototyping tools such as Flash is a plus.
Experience and knowledge of Android, iPhone, Silverlight, WPF, Java and other popular platforms is a plus.
Experience with digital media creation and manipulation (such as audio or video editing) is a plus.
