Job Summary:Â Â
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) requires specific technical knowledge of the data warehouse environment, to administer, maintain, and control the data warehouse including the database, operating systems, and tools. This resource may also be the Lead Consultant on a project.
Key Responsibilities: Â
The incumbent will leverage his background, consultative skills and intense client-value focus to develop unique data solutions optimized to the special capabilities of the Teradata platform. The successful candidate will be involved in doing the following and may also lead a team of DBAs in executing such.Â
•         Administration, maintenance and control of database optimization, capacity, security, configuration, scheduling, errors, and execution of maintenance utilities.Â
•         Administration, maintenance, and control of the operating system, network, and tools.
•         Managing data and referential integrity of the database.
•         Lead, mentor and interact with other team members and the client for the dissemination of information about the database and system administration.
•         Incorporate user environment requirements in design including access rights and security
•         Design and set-up of periodic backups of the database and operating system.
•         Plan for and support hardware/software installation and upgrades.
•         Deliver data warehouse solutions utilizing Teradata and other data-warehousing-related productsÂ
•         Apply knowledge and practical application of data warehouse implementation and support in the areas of physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, SQL, database and SQL performance tuning.
•         Provide data warehouse consulting services, thought leadership, technical and industry expertise to Teradata clients.Â
•         Coordinate and assist in the implementation of data replication and distribution.
Skills & Attributes:
•      Thorough knowledge of database technology and Teradata parallel architecture
•      Experience in implementing physical model on relational databases.
•      Knowledge of SQL to analyze databases
•      ETL experience and involvement in the design of work and staging tables
•      Experience with Teradata utilities including load/unload
•      Expertise with Teradata management facilities and software
•      Knowledge of at least one external environment and operating system including Unix, MVS, or other mainframe/minicomputer OS
•      Familiarity with production environment demands regarding system performance, batch load windows and external system synchronization of data
•      Knowledge of Teradata Active Data Warehousing
•      Hands-on expertise with relational database technology (DB2, Teradata, Oracle, Informix) in a production environment.
•      Experience with Data profiling
•      Conversant in current Data Warehousing topics.
•      Deeply involved in state-of-the-art data warehousing technologies, including relational databases, OLAP end-user tools, and data mining.Â
•      Experience with Performance Tuning /SQL Tuning in a multi-user production environment
•      Experience and knowledge of Physical Data Modeling
•      Participates in customer and team relationship building.

Basic Qualifications:
•         BS in Business Information Systems with emphasis in Data Warehouse curriculum
•         8 years of Teradata and Data Warehouse experience required
•         8 years hands-on Teradata administration in a production environment where the Teradata system is accessed by multiple business users
•        Knowledge of UNIX and C, Windows 95, relational database technology, and end-user tools in an application development environment
•         Ability to travel 80% to 100
•         Thorough understanding of the data environment is essential
•         Ability to communicate clearly as well as create & deliver customer presentations
•         Ability to translate customer needs into solutions
•         Project leadership experience - ability to lead and work in high energy groups
Preferred Qualifications:
•         Industry knowledge in finance, and/or insurance, and/or healthcare.
•         Proven experience with enterprise wide logical models such as Teradata Industry LDMs   .
•         Understanding of the concepts of normalization
•         Logical data modeling skills
•         Teradata Basic, Physical Implementation and Administration certifications
•         Experience with large, IBM MVS mainframe environments a plus
•        Knowledge of administrative tools such as TOAD for Oracle   Â
