Senior UI Designer Freelance to Full-time (Los Angeles)
LOCUS New Media is looking for a Senior UI Designer to create kick-ass interactive experiences across web, mobile and other new media. This is a contract position with down-the-road opportunities for full-time employment.
LOCUS designers are intellectually hungry, creatively unorthodox, and technically formidable talents who believe in positive change through design. Designers form the heart of our culture: we see incredible potential in improving society through the lens of design thinking.
A bit about how well work:
-Youll work off-site with a remotely distributed team and communicate with us using the latest collaboration tools: Skype, Basecamp, GoogleDocs, etc.
-Youll need a solid, high-speed Internet connection. Good coffee optional.
-Our team synchronizes at least 1-2 times daily via Skype, and generally stay within contact via email, IM and phone during PST business hours.
-Were in Los Angeles, and we prefer local talent. Well probably meet up occasionally for work and client presentations.
-As we continue to grow, we're looking for talent that wants to be part of a growing team and eventually you want to become an employee (serial contractors or moonlighting contractors best leave this position to those who want to eventually become employees).
-We work with some amazing A-list clients and expect you and your work to be as unique as our clients are.
Responsibilities:
-Champion user experience, design principles, and the creative process across all work
-Design layout and typographic information systems for use in interactive media
-Design data visualizations, icons, interaction flows, presentation concepts
-Create original images to support brand and product stories for clients
-Work with creative director to discuss strategy and execute creative briefs
-Support UX architectural efforts in creating low-fidelity interaction prototypes and flows
-Collaborate closely with development teams to implement interaction designs
-Mentor junior designers in the creative and design process
Qualifications:
-6-8+ years of working experience with development teams on web or mobile projects
-Thorough understanding of the interactive design process, from whiteboard to product
-You know (and possibly even have a crush on) Edward Tufte
-Code doesnt make you want to hide. And you actually have programmer friends.
-Youve admittedly spent a Saturday thinking about grid systems, typographic construction, and color harmonies.
-Serious Photoshop and Illustrator skills. Big props if you also have Omnigraffle and Fireworks skills to boot.
-Even bigger props if you do front-end code: html + css. If you also do js, well try hard not to fall in love with you on the first date.
-Great note-taking, white-boarding, collage-making habits. You arent just a pixel pusher.
-Professional habits, a smashing presentation-day wardrobe, and excellent communication skills.
-Youre comfortable working off-site and have all the gear and software youll need to hit the ground running (CS4+).
-You arent a primadonna or creative douchebag.
We are a vibrant and growing boutique agency. If you are interested in this position, please email your resume. And just so we know you're detail oriented, start your email with "Dear Locus Design Job."
