Web Developer - Back End (Los Angeles)

Westside creative advertising agency seeks a Web Developer, Back End. Reporting to the IT Director, the Web Developer, Back End will be joining a passionate new team of developers charged with creating several brand new intranet applications for our company. The Web Developer, Back End will handle all development tasks related to the application logic and data store of these applications. This position involves regular collaboration especially with front end developers.

The intranet applications will be used by a highly technical and aesthetically savvy user base of mostly Mac/iPad/iPhone users. This offers the Web Developer, Back End a unique and rewarding opportunity to work on creating cutting edge applications for this demographic as well as provide much needed features to the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, architect and build the back end to several business intranet web application projects.

• Implement both the business logic and also the data layer in a multi-tiered architecture.

• Strive for simple, straightforward solutions using proven methodologies and technologies.

• Thoroughly test and QA developed applications.

• Handle ongoing application maintenance, including but not limited to, new features, bug fixes and also database

maintenance.

• Work with team members in an iterative and incremental development process, which will include frequent status

meetings.

• Share knowledge and collaborate effectively with fellow developers.

• Document source code and check-in all source code to SCM.

• Document all APIs for use by front-end developers.

• Continually advance technical knowledge and assess relevancy and usefulness of new technologies.

• Aid team leaders in technical decision making.

REQUIREMENTS

• Strong understanding of OOP.

• 4+ years experience with PHP & MySQL on Linux.

• Experience with Rails or Python a plus.

• Knowledge of AJAX, XML, JSON, Regex, and useful Design Patterns.

• 2+ years experience with SVN or Mercurial.

• Portfolio demonstrating expertise in web back end development.

• Passion for non-plugin based RIAs and service driven applications.

• Experience with web APIs; both creating them and and consuming 3rd party services.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience with Mac OS X server a plus.
