WITNESS was co-founded in 1992 by musician and activist Peter Gabriel as the realization of Peter's vision of capturing the stories of human rights atrocities on video and putting them at the forefront of human rights campaigns. Since then, WITNESS has trained and partnered with thousands of human rights activists to utilize video for change in over 80 countries all over the world.

WITNESS is seeking a highly-motivated, self-directed individual to provide support in our Communications Department as the Web Tech Assistant. This is a temporary position between 3-4 months, working weekdays between 20-40 hours per week, depending on project needs and availability.

Primary Responsibilities:

Supporting Online Outreach & Production Associate with website redesign
Organizing, prepping, and heavy data entry of gathered content for
incorporation into new site
Organizing content with tagging and taxonomy
HTML coding, verifying and some JavaScript coding
Some QA testing for major web browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari, Chrome, Opera)
Working with social media API's and feeds (a plus)
Working with online video

Position Requirements:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Experience with Drupal and self hosted Wordpress
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment, take
initiative and work with little supervision
Proficiency with Mac & PC platforms and Microsoft Office (specifically Word &
Excel)
Proficiency with HTML, XHTML, CSS and w3c validation.
Understanding open source CMS platforms.
Knowledge of major web browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari, Chrome, Opera)
Strong proofreading skills

Preferred Qualifications:

PHP knowledge
Experience creating and modifying images using Photoshop or equivalent
Familiarity with API's, RSS
